While traditional 2D ultrasounds are done between seventeen and twenty weeks, the best time for a 3D ultrasound is between twenty-four and thirty weeks. An ultrasound between twenty-eight to thirty weeks may provide better close-up pictures; however, after thirty two weeks there's a chance that the baby may have already descended into the pelvis and getting a 3D image would be impossible. As always during your pregnancy, consult frequently with your physician and discuss when a 3D ultrasound would be the best for you.
