At the recent IFA electronics show, Sony showed us its prototypes of a to be launched Sony 3D laptop. It also has active-shutter glasses that come with it. What these glasses do is that they separate the view of your left eye from that of your right eye. This results in an amazing pictorial experience.

These 3D laptops are ready to be launched in spring 2011. Using frame sequential technology, these laptops rapidly cycle the full screen view between left eye and the right eye. It has blank screens in between to reduce crosstalk and provide a much better image quality to the user. The laptop will show videos at a rate of 240 frames in a second which is necessary to catch up with a rate of 3D videos at 60 frames per second.

There is also a HDMI output and this model supports surround sound outputs (5.1 channel).

Design: The Acer AS5738DG-6165 3D laptop sports the signature design on Acer laptops. It sport smooth curve and edges, giving it a rather modern look. It measures at 15.1 x 9.8 x 1 inches and weighs in at 6.2 pounds. Overall, this laptop sports a classic, sleek and professional look.

Features & Performance: Besides being great for watching 3D content, the Acer AS5738DG-6165 is a versatile laptop that is designed to handle a variety of heavy-duty computing tasks. The ample RAM (that can be upgraded to a maximum of 8GB) gives a dreamy multi-tasking performance. In our tests, the quality of the 3D images largely depends on the source of your image/video but generally, was very fun to use. Despite being a very competent 3D laptop, the Acer AS5738DG-6165 is very modestly priced. At the moment, this model is retailing at just around $674 each.
