Many 3D Studio MAX users are also AutoCAD users or they work with individuals who create 2D and 3D drawings in AutoCAD. Alas, the process of transferring models between 3D Studio MAX and AutoCAD is not always as seamless as you would like to expect. In this appendix, you will learn the options available for importing AutoCAD drawing files into 3D Studio MAX and how those options can affect the way you work.

We can achieve high quality Modeling and rendering with software like Revit, 3D Studio Max and other tools like VRAY, Mental Ray etc. With the help of these software we can convert black and white 2d floor plans into buildings and showcase an image which will give an idea of how the building will look once it is finished. Time taken to achieve high quality rendering will depend upon the complexity and the requirement of the particular scenario. A simple floor plan may take a couple of hours to be rendered but a building or an exterior of a building, landscaping etc will take a day's time, a walkthrough may take weeks to get rendered.

The normal (or visible solid) side of the polygon is determined either by the order in which the vertices that comprise the polygon are chosen, or by a separate list of vertex normals, also attached to the polygon construction list. Most real-time engines use triangular polygons, just as 3D Studio MAX does. Some systems use quadrilateral polygons.
